Because we don't all speak the same language, symbols or pictures are a way to communicate with each other.  Using symbols to communicate ideas is considered a "universal language"--we all know how to read pictures!  Great idea, don't you think?  Take a look around your world and see how many symbols you can find!  In our California State Parks, we use our own special symbols to communicate with our visitors.  See how well you do reading and matching up these symbols.
